Semi-Truck Accidents occur all too frequently. An 80,000 pound truck traveling 60 miles per hour down the road is likely to cause significant injury or death when involved in an accident with a passenger vehicle.
All truck drivers are required by federal law to carry commercial truck liability insurance in the amount of $750,000.00 that covers damages or injuries to other people.
The problem with this low coverage is that each year approximately 4,000 truck accidents result in death and most will result in claims that exceed the $750,000 limits. Some truck drivers carry liability policies of $1 million, according to the trucking and insurance industries and the legal minimum goes up to $5 million for trucks carrying hazardous cargo.
For passenger vehicles Ohio state law requires minimum liability coverage of $25,000 per person and $50,000 for a multi-person accident.
